Description

wood, shiny brown patina, in the shape of an arm- and legless figure with elaborate carved coiffure, circular mouthpiece, drilled hole for support, min. dam., on base;
Chokwe and related peoples carve whistles intended to represent male and female couples, in which case the sounds of the whistles which are interpreted as the voices of the ancestors, have distinct “male” and “female” tones.
