Description
cemaric, pigments, partially damaged
The face, with its pronounced eye area, projecting mouth and elongated tongue- or serpent-like element, refers to the Zapotec rain and lightning iconography associated with “cocijo”. The figure may therefore be understood as a ritually charged representation, possibly of a deity, an ancestor, or a high-ranking person shown with divine attributes.
