Description
wood, brown patina, blackened in parts, circular base and seat, supported by four leopards standing on their hind legs, min. dam., traces of insect caused damage, small missing parts, cracks, traces of abrasion;
in the Cameroon Grassfields stools are an important part of a chiefs regalias. The open worked base is typical for this region. The leopard embodies certain attributes like speediness, survivability and aggressiveness which were transfered on the king. So he became the most important royal symbol, like an “alter ego” of the king.
