Description

light beige clay, polychrome painting (partly renewed), in form of a seated male figure (sleeper), old collection number “28.22:81.” and label “Roeding. Peru L:P.:R.:81.”, min. dam., small missing parts at the spout, abrasion of paint;
the Moche culture dating from about 100 B.C. to 700 A.D., spread over several valleys on the North Coast of Peru. The period of Moche was called the classical period or period of craftsmen skilled in art. Chronologically Moche, which can be subdivided into five phases, coincides with another outstanding Peruvian culture - the Nazca culture to the South of Moche.
