Description
wood, greyish brown patina, kaolin, male/female, in nearly identical posture, the female figure with additional scarifications on the chest, the male wearing a hat-like headdress, min. dam., minor missing parts through insect caused damage, cracks, slight traces of abrasion, on metal plate;
the Eket are a small ethnic group belonging to the Ibibio. Just like the Ibibio the Eket have an “ekpo” society, a society of soothsayers, called “idiong”, a society named after the god of war “ekong” and the “ogbom” society worshipping the goddess of fertility.
