Description

light brown wood, polychrome paint, stylized forms, well-rounded hips and shoulders, oval head with tribe-typical facial features, rep. (foot tip), missing parts through insect caused damage, cracks, traces of abrasion, on wooden base;
even for the Ijaw the donation of ancestors plays an important role. Aside of ancestor panels “duein fubara” they made anthropomorphic figures representing bush spirits and ghosts “oru fubara”. But figures might as well depict presbyters, village heroes or other honoured persons.
