Description
wood, black patina, crude but expressive forms, especially distinctive: the chin-less head with two rows of bulky teeth, deepened eyeholes (possibly once with inlay), slightly dam. (mouth), fine cracks, paint chipped off, traces of insect caused damage (base), base;
possibly representing a figure of the “ibubi” type: the male and females are owned by high-ranking “bukota” members and are used in circumcision, and also to reestablish peace. “Ibubi” also participate in initation and appear at times of social tension. According to M. L. Felix the Metoko even had figures which were put on tombs and used during funerary functions.
