Description

wood, matt reddish brown patina, encrustations with clay, camwood powder, concave vaulted upper part of the body, the face enclosed by saucer-shaped ears with drilled holes, radial arranged scarifications at the corners of the mouth, incised patterns on the body, slightly dam. (ear), missing parts (feet), rep. (crested coiffure backside), metal plate;
the Chamba live on the border between present-day Cameroon and Nigeria. Their sculpture was used in worship, especially in rituals designed to protect against disease, particularly smallpox.
