Description

fired beige-coloured clay, remains of painting in red and black, head and body formed extremely broad and flat, the limbs in contrast fully plastic, eyes and mouth marked by grooves, arms and legs with banded decor, drilled holes, min. dam. (left wrist), rep. (?);
Quimbaya people reached their apogee during the 4th to 7th century AD a period known as “The Quimbaya Classic”. Around the 10th century AD the Quimbaya culture disappeared entirely due to unknown circumstances. Most of the retrieved items are part of funeral offerings, found inside of sarcophagi made of hollow trunks. Most of them are made of gold, which represented a sacred metal and the passport for the afterlife.
