Description

rawhide, dark brown patina, of rectangular form with raised vertical middle ridge, painted designs in white colour, firm rattan handle backside, drilled holes on the upper rim, originally decorated with goats hair tassels and fibrous tassels, slightly dam. (rims), damaged area at the left rim;
usually elephant hides or those of some varieties of buffalo were used. The raw hide shields were used in war and have an important role as ceremonial symbols as well. They appear in the hands of the most expert dancers during the ritual dances on the occasion of funerals and are placed on the graves of the warriors.
