Description

wickerwork, natural-coloured, accents in dark brown, remains of animal skin, stabilized by a braided reed rim, two parallel stiffening slats woven into them and wrapped in natural-coloured bast, wooden handle on the rear, min. dam., slight traces of usage;
today the Mongo peoples are generally looked upon as the users of these shields. They inhabit the tropical rain forest and almost all of the entire Zaire basin (in the equatorial region), and with their 60 subtribes represent the most important Bantu tribal group.
