fired clay, red coating, remains of black paint, classic form: leaning forward with distended back, with hands to the ankles, a flanged spout atop his head, pierced ears, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion;
figures with physical deformities are known to have played an important role, socially and ritually, in Mesoamerican life. It is known that hunchbacks and dwarfs played an important role at the court. In Maya mythology they were associated with the underworld.
