Sculpture: Raumkörper, 2009
Description
Lime tree, painted,
Very exciting and unusual biomorphic sculpture.
Thevis writes about his spatial works:
“My works are wooden objects that not only displace the space they are in, but at the same time house spaces inside them. By hollowing out the interior, the original piece of wood transforms into something new and different.” Source: Homepage of the artist.
Ernst Thevis completed an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor at the carving school in Berchtesgaden. This was followed by architectural studies at the RWTH Aachen and studies in sculpture and guest studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Since 1998 he has been professor of plastic design at the Lippe University of Applied Sciences (now OWL University of Applied Sciences).
