An exceptional vessel in the form of a seated jaguar with a voluminous body resting on a gently rounded base. The head and tail of the animal are modeled in relief; the body is painted with a cream-white fur pattern. The cylindrical spout on the back is adorned with an anthropomorphic face.
The jaguar symbolized power and might throughout the Pre-Columbian world. Warriors, rulers, hunters, and shamans alike associated themselves with this king of beasts, the largest and most powerful feline in the New World.
