Récipient à pied, Coclé tardif, style Macaracas, env. 800 - 1200 apr. J.-C. · Panama, Gran Coclé · ID: 3052959
German Private Collection, Munich
Description
ceramic, polychrome painted, rest.
The depicted motifs and geometric patterns are outlined in bold black lines. The pedestal base is ornamentally pierced in four places.
The Macaracas style (ca. 800 - 1000 AD) represents a later, highly developed phase of the Coclé culture. During this period, the colour palette - previously dominated by red and black on a cream-white ground - was expanded to include blue, although this hue ranged from grayish to reddish-purple tones.
