Description
wood, blackish brown patina, broad face with indicated beard, fine arching brows and vertical incision across forehead and nose bridge, a coarse body in contrast, opening in the head filled with magical mass, slightly dam., base;
the Kusu live in the east of the Kongo. Their neighbours to the east are the Hemba, to the south the Songe and to the northeast the Lega. Carvings of the Kusu show the influences of the adjoining groups, so the “kakudji” half figures like the present one, are influenced by the Kasongo.
