“Ongon” (pl. “ongod”) is a type of spirit in the shamanistic belief system of Mongolia. After death, all shamans become shamanic souls, “ongod”.

The “ongons” are the most important aids of a shaman and serve in the shamanic rituals to communicate with the ancestors. They are kept in special places, in the tent of the shaman himself or in specially built huts.
