Description
inventory no. St. Augustin “71.7.173 72.1.10” on the revers, base
This stone sculpture presents an archaic-looking face with a prominently emphasized nose, deeply recessed eyes, and a distinctly open mouth. The rough carving lends the figure a particular expressiveness. Below the face, relief-like ornaments have been worked into the surface, further accentuating its appearance.
