Description

wood, reddish brown patina, small remains of black and indigo blue pigment, two strings with coconut discs, characteristic form of the Oyo “ibeji”, three lancet-shaped scarifications on the forehead and tattoos on the belly, radially emerging from the navel, pupils originally inset with metal tags (now missing), slightly dam. (coiffures on reverse), facial features rubbed off (nose, mouth);
Oyo “ibeji” always have a camwood patina, as rubbing the figure with camwood oil was part of the “ibeji” cult in Oyo.
