Description

cotton/alpaca wool (?), simple T-shaped form, fringed seams, natural-coloured, contours in black, painted in yellow ochre and warm red paint, an anthropomorphic being with snake-like projections in the centre, surrounded by zoomorphic phantastic beings, various old places of repair, missing part on the right side at the bottom, stains, on wooden frame (153 x 110 cm) with light brown cotton coating;
textile art is the oldest and at the same time the most developed in Ancient Peru. All the techniques known in the world at the time of the arrival of the Spaniards had already been used in the Peruvian cultures. For painted decoration vegetal dyes were used that were applied with a brush directly onto the cloth.
