Description

wood, light brown patina, black paint, of regular form, firm stand despite of the bellied bottom, accurately fitting lid with the handle in shape of a stylized leopard with dotted pattern, incised diamond-shaped patterns running around, slightly dam., minor missing parts, paint rubbed off;
the Rotse have their homeland in western Sambia on the banks of the upper Zambezi. For a long time the Rotse were under the cultural influence of the Lunda, Chokwe and Luena. They are particularly known for their marked style in figures, but also in objects of daily use, like bowls, which were used for keeping meet and vegetable.
