Description

clamshell (“Tridacna Gigas”), flat ring with several notches in one place at the rim, round cut out in the centre, crack;
to the Abelam the word “yua” means “shell ring” and “pal” marks the hornbill. His beak served as model for the notches engraved in the ring, indicating the number of transactions of its respective owner (e.g. pig sacrifices, ritual trades or marriage).
