Description

wood, kaolin, bark cloth, mask with various drilled holes and grooved cheek scarifications, slight traces of abrasion, h: 30 cm; bark cloth painted with black loops, cord belt with animal tail attached, min. dam., cracks, traces of usage, l: 157 cm;
the spots and the tail allow to infer that mask and costume were used in connection with the “lilwa " (leopard) society. The Yela have adopted the institutional rituals of the “lilwa” society from the Mbole.
