These masks were mostly attributed to the Bamana in Mali. Patrick Girard did extensive research in the 1990s about these masks. According to this, they come from a small group of Senufo peoples living around Tingrela, in the border region of Ivory Coast and Mali. According to Girard they are called “bangoro go” / “gbaangorongo” and are worn horizontally on the head (cf. AHDRC 0130911).
