Description

wood, encrusted blackish brown patina, vertical forehead ridge, tubular projections underneath eyes, large mouth with drilled holes (for insertion of teeth), three drilled holes on the forehead for insertion of ornament (feathers), tufts of animal hair attached on both sides of the mouth, drilled holes around the rim, slightly dam. (rim), abrasion of paint/traces of usage, base;
most probably belonging to “bugle” mask type. “Bugle” are warrior mask figures, who prepared men for war or led them into the fight. The costume frequently consists of a feather headdress, a dark coloured tippet and raffia skirt.
