Description

light wood, brown patina, the flat facial plane originally whitened with kaolin, preserved only in small areas, at which strongly darkened, pierced eyes with raised rim, mouth, eyebrows and skin scarifications marked by incised lines, slightly dam. (horn tips, mask rim), traces of insect caused damage, abrasion of paint, metal basee;
the Tsohgo are a small ethnic group in the central south of Gabon, to the north of the Punu, and to the east of the Shira. The sculptural style of the Tsogho is similar to that of the Fang, yet the faces of their masks and figures are characterized by a distinct emphasis on the eyebrows which then often form a double semi-circle.
