wood, matt patina, polychrome paint, completely painted with dots, eye-catching lips, pierced around the rim, min. dam., small missing parts (back), cracks, metal socle;
these masks are worn on a costume that completely cloaks the wearer and is made of dried banana leaves or plumes of the turaco. The “ndunga” society stands in the service of the “ntinu” (king) and the chiefs of the “great families” and had policing and military function.The members of the “ndunga” are guarantors of the maintenance of power and respect for the law.
