Description

wood, encrusted patina, polychrome paint, consisting of three parts, fixed with rattan, middle part in form of a mask with hinged jaw and beak-like mouth, dam., small missing parts, traces of abrasion;
probably used by the “ekpo” society as well as by the “ekong” society. The “ekpo” society became known for human sacrifices, their antichristian attitude and the use of poison to keep social and political control.
