Description
wood, greyish brown encrusted patina, remains of polychrome paint, carved with chin plug and figural couple, round eyes with concentrical rings, diamond-shaped mouth with long teeth, rep. (left figure), min. dam., cracks, slight traces of abrasion, on metal base;
the masks of the Winiama mainly depict bush spirits and spiritual beings who adopted animalic forms. The most frequently portrayed animals are antelope, buffalo, warthog, hornbill, hyaena and snake, at which all animals are extremely stylized in form.
