The “dhodro banam” belongs to the “sarinda family”, a type of lute with a partially open body that is covered with skin on the lower part. It generally has only one string, and is played with a bow in the manner of a violin, but in a vertical position.
The “dhodro banam” is played by tribes known as “Adhivasi” (non-Hindu people of the Munda language), such as the Santal and the Ho, in the regions of Bihar, Orissa, and West Bengal in India.
