Description

ceramic, handwritten collection no. “56.239”

Figures with physical deformities are known to have played an important role, socially and ritually, in Mesoamerican life. Hunchbacks and dwarves, for example, had a special position at court as jesters, musicians and dancers. In Maya mythology they were associated with the underworld.
