Description

wood, dark brown patina, string with miniature glass beads, plug-shaped base, tapering to a point, special detail: one eye-socket empty, min. dam., small missing parts, slight traces of abrasion;
very rare object !
The rarity of these objects is determined by two factors. They were created for an elite class of Lulua women. By the end of the 19th century machinations within their culture and Western influence limited the power of these women and the circle of the elite tightened dramatically. The other reason is that these carvings were often either destroyed once the woman was no longer associated with the cult, or they were buried with their owner.
