Grand modèle de temple, 400 -100 av. J.-C. · Mexique, Guerrero, Mezcala · ID: 3053049
Description
metadiorite,
Little is known about the archaeological context, and there is hardly any evidence of preserved architecture in the region in question. However, models with columns could refer to buildings with stone columns, such as those known from Cuetlajuchitlán.
Mezcala architectural models are generally interpreted as representations of temples. In cases where they were deposited in graves, it is also assumed that they may have served as symbolic entrances to the spirit world or as dwellings for the deceased.
