Dogs were of great importance in the Colima culture. On the one hand, they were considered a delicacy and certain breeds (techichi) were bred and fattened exclusively for consumption. Secondly, in mythology, dogs guided the souls of the deceased along the rivers of the underworld to the afterlife.
