Description
wood, dark brown patina, combining human and animalic features, slightly dam., missing parts (teeth), base;
presumably once a handle of a prestige bowl. The leopard plays an important role in the iconography of Grassfield cultures. He is the royal symbol for vigilance, promptness and strength and thus a motif frequently used in wood carving.
