These figures were loaded with medicines “bilongo” or “bonga”, which were assembled according to the purpose of the respective figure.

Hunting societies had hunting fetishes “bundzi”, other fetishes were supposed to bring luck in commercial transactions or to protect on journeys. The functions were manifold.
