Figure masculine debout "tege" · R. D. Congo, Teke · ID: 3044263
Gallery Lucas Ratton, Paris, France
Description
wood, blackened in places, base
Due to stylistic reasons this figure can be located to a workshop in the Stanley Pool, now Malebo Pool.
The carvers offered their pieces to interested parties, who could take the object to a healer “nganga” to charge it for the accomplishment of a specific task. After the magical charge was applied, the figures were called “buti”. If the figure was not loaded - as in present case - it was called “tege”.
