Description
wood, heavily encrusted sacrificial patina, rest.
Sculptures of the Dogon, called “dege”, were placed on many different kinds of altars, most of which were dedicated to ancestors, either real or mythical.
The figures served as intermediaries between people and a variety of spiritual beings, including gods and ancestors. They were sacrificed with a wide variety of materials to achieve the desired ends.
