Figure féminine debout · Tchad, Bagirmi · ID: 3043587
Bruno Frey, Arnay le Duc, France
Description
wood, dark brown patina, remains of pigments, earrings, bracelets and anklets from silver metal sheet, rep. (breakage: left foot tip), small missing parts, slight traces of abrasion, base.
The only carvings known to be made by the Bagirmi are these stylized dolls. The dolls are carved from light-coloured wood, which is then blackened. It is thought that these dolls like the Namchi dolls had a ritual function.
