Felix divides the mainland of Tanzania into eight style zones, assigning the Pare (together with the Shambaa, Mbugu, Zigua, Bondai, Kamba and others) to style zone V, “Northeast Tanzania along the border with Kenya”.

All groups in this region produce wooden and clay figurines, often wrapped in fabric or leather. They serve as visual teaching aids during initiations and are used in the practices of ritual healers and fortune tellers.
