Description

wood, gesso-painted, color pigments, depicted mummiform, inserted into separately-made plinth, figure and plinth painted with hieroglyphs, old inventory no “24”.

The hieroglyphs reflect the standard formula written on “Ptah-Sokar Osiris” figures. Vertical line: “Words spoken. Hail to you (?) Osiris, foremost of the Westerners, great god, (lord) of heaven…”. On foot: “Words spoken. (O) hidden one, lord of the gods, great god…”.

Statues of this deity often formed part of the tomb equipment in the Late Period.

As early as the Old Kingdom, the creator god “Ptah” of Memphis formed close links with the funerary god of the city, “Sokar”, leading to the creation of the god “Ptah-Sokar”. In later times this god also acquired the characteristics of the god “Osiris” (the god of the afterlife, the underworld and rebirth), resulting in the god “Ptah-Sokar-Osiris”.
