Figure anthropomorphe, période classique tardive à postclassique précoce, vers 900–1519 ·  Mexique, Maya · ID: 3053760

Description

limestone, label “M26” on the back, cleaned by a conservator, base

This very rare, monolithically carved male figure has a timelessly monumental presence, enhanced by its strictly frontal and compact composition. The forearms are crossed in front of the body; large ear ornaments and a close-fitting headdress characterize the figure.

According to the accompanying stone analysis, traces of the original polychrome decoration were detected; the surface was cleaned by a conservator at a later date.
