Description

wood, brown patina, black paint, camwood powder, three strings of coconut discs, eyes with metal tags, front side of the upper part of the body, back and upper arms coated with incised linear scarification marks, rising from free standing feet in high sandals, the face - above all the mouth area - strongly abraded through repeated feeding procedures, slightly dam., abrasion of paint (heels);
Ila-Orangun (“Ila” for short) is the capital of the Igbomina tribe. Along with Abeokuta, Oshogbo and Ekiti it forms one of the most important centres of traditional wood carving in Yoruba country.
