Description

wood, kaolin, dark brown patina, camwood powder, the facial plane withened with kaolin, high arching brows, painted linear tattoos below the eyes, drilled holes around the rim, slightly dam., on metal base;
the Tsogho and the neighbouring Vuvi have similar traditions utilizing masks in initiation or funeral ceremonies. Masquerades that take place by night are sacred, with attendance usually restricted to initated males. Daytime ceremonies are for entertainment and may be witnessed by the entire community.
