Discs with embossed rays as a sun symbol have been handed down from ancient times for the Indus region, but the ear jewellery “tarkulia” is also worn by Rai women in Nepal.

The central cylindrical element of the “tilhari” wedding necklaces was made of different materials depending on the social status of the wearer: Gold for women from wealthy families, gold-plated or silver for those with limited financial means.
