Description

5 pcs.,

  1. broad bracelet, Southwest Algerian oases, silver, granule, d: 6.2 cm x 6 cm (inside); w: 106 g

Bracelets of this basic type, with hollow domes and rich granule, are also found in variations west of the border with Morocco, in the area of the western Anti-Atlas and in the central High Atlas / Djebel Sioura. There, however, they are consistently polychrome enamelled.

  1. amulet (central part of a pectoral), Southwest Algerian oases, silver, hollow worked, granule and engraved, m: 6.7 cm x 6 cm x 1.2 cm; w: 63 g

  2. Bracelet with applied silver beads, south-western and southern Algerian oases, silver(?) alloy, hollow work, d: 5.8 cm x 2.3 cm (inside); w: 69 g

  3. two rings, southern Algerian oases, silver(?), granule, m: 4.8 cm x 3.3 cm, w: 30 g & 3.7 cm x 2.8 cm; w: 14 g

This type of ring with a classical granule is (originally) found in the southern Algerian oases of the Sahara. Local women there wear them regardless of their ethnic background (Berber, Arab, Haratin or Tuareg). In literature, they are often attributed to the Tuareg, although they clearly show Berber iconography.
