a) shell trumpet “tecciztli”, decorated with figural reliefs and gemstones, l: 21 cm
b) necklace with bird pendants, mussel shell, eyes with inlay (jade), pigment, newly mounted, l: 17.5 cm
c) serrated chain links, shell, 64 pieces, h: 1.4 - 2.7 cm
d) seven shell fragments with stylized human face, five of them with remnants of incorporated gemstones, h: 5- 7.5 cm
in addition: chain links of terracotta and black stone, 29 pcs.

“Tecciztli” shell trumpets are among the oldest instruments in Mesoamerica. Their deep tones were heard at ceremonies, religious festivals, human sacrifices and the mortification of priests. Snails had a high symbolic and material value. Because of their close connection to the basic element of water, they were a symbol of birth and procreation.
