Carl Otto Hultén, Malmö, Sweden (member of the Cobra-Group)
Description
wood, shiny blackish brown patina, decoration nails, slightly vaulted bell-shaped corpus, two handles at the sides, min. dam., slight traces of abrasion, socle;
slit drums were beaten to dances and courtly music. These drums belong to the group of musical instruments called idiophones, because of their solid body that is not susceptible to tension, like the membranophones, but whose sound is produced by the vibrations of that body. Slit drums are comparable to iron gongs or instruments which are played in the manner washboards are.
