Drum "mbè"

Description

wood, dark brown patina, black paint, base in openwork design, the corpus carved with a reptile and triangular patterns in bas-relief, intact drum skin, fixed by plant fibre and wedged wooden pieces, min. dam., missing parts through insect caused damage, traces of abrasion;
there are many different kinds of drums in Gabon. The drum “mbè” stood on the ground in front of the player and was beaten with the hands.
