Description

wood, middle brown patina, hourglass-shaped, carved with a mask face, a maternité and a standing male, min. dam., missing part (arm of the male figure), cracks, slight traces of abrasion;
this type of drum typically has a sympathetic membrane mounted on the side that vibrates when the drum skin is struck and produces a buzzing sound.
Luba drums are used at the investiture and funeral of rulers or at the death of a ruler’s child.
